A Cautionary Tale

Vanessa's and Vivan's marriage has turned out to be one of utter disgust. Day after day it became impossible for her to live in that house. With fights getting more common and her mother-in-law interfering more than ever in her daily life. From the moment she got up to the moment she lied down at night, every lil of her had become a big problem to her MIL and her son.

Vivan was nothing but an overgrown child. His ways his behavior was that of a 5 year old. It is an un-said rule in any relationship that whatever happens between a couple must remain between the couple, but well that rule was non- existent in their relation. Whatever little things happened between them, fell directly to his mothers ears. You don’t expect this from a 28 year old, do u? His mother had so much to complain about Vanessa that she kept yelling her for no apparent reason. The moment she got up, the expression on her MIL's face gave her jitters. The moment her MIL opened her mouth was only and only to scold Vanessa. It was her pre-conceived notion that she doesn't do a thing correctly, and of-course her son only added fuel to the fire. It seemed that they only wanted a house maid and not a wife or a daughter-in-law. It was cruelty to the hilt. The kind of language her mother-in-law used was a third grade  cheap konkani language. Though konkani was spoken in Vanessa's home as well, she had never before  heard such a low level usage of that language. It was increasingly getting tougher for her to live in that house; which apparently had become a hell for her.She was going through a lot of torture in that house, from verbal abuse to mental harassment to abandonment, she had seen it all.

This marriage has bee a disaster of sorts. It was the biggest decision of her life and she took it very lightly thinking everything would be fine in the long run. But no, this doesn't happen in real life. In real life, you have to think wisely before making life altering decisions. The signs were very clear to Vanessa from day one. The way his mother refused even to let her and Vivan speak, the way his mother showed her bad attitude at every possible occasion. The way Vivan never showed interest in knowing her at all! But Vanessa and her family just let it go. Even when she had put forward her decision of breaking the engagement, no one not even her mother supported it. And now it had become so that she was in the deepest shit of her life.

So it is a lesson, a cautionary tale to never succumb to your peers demands, it is your life and it should only be you who makes the final decision.

She wanted to make a vow, a promise to herself. Never to succumb to any mans words. She had been fooled, cheated and along the way, been hurt, very deeply. She  didn't  know what made them do it, what made them break her heart every single time. Could it be vulnerability? Possibly yes. There are some questions of the heart which no one could answer, not even her heart. Despite always being a kind lover, a faithful one what did she get in return. Nothing but, emptiness of the heart. Love was blossoming in both hearts. She was ecstatic that she had found someone who could match her on the same wavelength. When they walked together, she could feel him protecting her.
